Frequently asked questions
What is shito?
Shito is a Ghanaian pepper sauce, a dark, smoky West African condiment traditionally spooned over rice, grilled meat and eggs. Coast of Gold makes a gourmet version in Australia, sweet, smoky and spicy, from a family recipe with a modern twist. It comes in Mild, Medium and Hot.
What is the difference between Mild, Medium and Hot?
All three Coast of Gold Shito Pepper Sauces share the same sweet, smoky, umami base, and only the spice changes. Mild is gentle and family friendly, Medium is the balanced crowd pleaser, and Hot is the boldest of the range and the best seller. Holy Shito, the scorpion chilli jar, sits above them all.
Is Coast of Gold shito vegan?
Yes. Every Coast of Gold Shito Pepper Sauce and the Holy Shito jar is plant based, made with vegan Worcestershire, so there is no fish or shrimp, unlike much traditional shito. The Suya Spice Rub is plant based too. All the sauces contain soy, and the suya contains peanuts.
